Kean University
is undertaking an unprecedented campaign to raise a minimum of $30 million from
private philanthropic sources toward a campus-wide $350 million investment. Transforming Lives: the Campaign for Kean
University will play a vital role in the University’s funding of its plans
to bring to fruition the next generation of educational programs, scholarship
and fellowship initiatives, endowment components, and other capital endeavors.
The Campaign essentially covers
six areas of priority. These include building upon our already successful science and technology, history and visual and performing arts programs, so
as to ensure that these areas will be categorized among the very best in our entire
region; developing an institute that is solely dedicated to the study of human rights in our world; broadening
the scope of our recently launched Global
MBA program, so that it can prepare even more students for the challenges
associated with an ever-changing economy and job market; and significantly
increasing the amount of scholarship
support for our students.
Specifically,
the Capital Campaign seeks to raise funds for four distinct sectors of University life:
Our
Centers of Excellence: The New Jersey Center for Science, Technology, and
Mathematics Education; Human Rights Institute; Center for Global and
Specialized Management; School of Visual and Performing Arts; College of
Humanities and Social Sciences/Liberty Hall Museum.
Student
Empowerment: Scholarships and Fellowships; Mentoring, Summer Internships;
Career Development.
Educator
Investment: Named Professorships;
Research and Scholarly Innovation; Professional Development; Visiting
Professors.
Capital
Resources: Nathan Weiss Graduate College; New Jersey Center for Science,
Technology, and Mathematics Education; Human Rights Institute; Wilkins Theater;
Residence Halls.
Ultimately, the $350 million
investment is in process, occurring over a ten-year period, and is divided into
two parts. Approximately $150 million is being invested in capital
enhancements, renovation and new construction throughout the campus. The
University is currently midway through these projects.
The remaining $200 million
investment is required to help Kean achieve its ambitious goals in student
empowerment, educator investment and general provision of resources to create
a margin of excellence. This portion of the overall plan will be supported by private
philanthropy, the $30 millionThe Transforming Lives campaign that will ultimately help provide
access to the American Dream for the thousands who form one of the most diverse
student populations in the nation. Without private philanthropic support, Kean
will not be able to fulfill its mission of bridging the gap between a good
college education and a great University experience.
